silly question i know, but what does the expression "sister blister" exactly means actually ?
i always thought it was a B side rarely sung live until alanis said it was one of her favorite song (i think she said so during her performance @ roseland Ballroom) so i reconsidered the importance of the song and realised i didn't actually understand the title !
can someone help me out on this please ? |

Sister Blister is about women fighting each other while they really should be standing together.
The "blister" part I interpret two different ways:
1. Blister is (in my head anyway, I don't know if it's just me) another word for blizzard.
2. A blister is a sore in your mouth. A local infection which hurts like Hell! And I could imagine that fighting something or someone who basically is yourself, or at least similar to you, would be really painful. _________________ Fabulous Freak of Nature |

| I actually think that the title, "Sister Blister," is used in order to imply that the relationship between women isn't as amicable as it appears on the surface. Since the entire song is touching on the issues that actually separate women from each other, the Blister part of the song is indicitive of the sore spots in the relationship. It accomplishes the same metaphorical effect as a thorn, only blister happens to rhyme with sister, giving it a certain ring. |
